Have you ever watched the movie Kung Fu Panda? I had seen it many years ago when it first came out on DVD, but I never thought of it as a movie that you could use to show off your HT system. That was until I visited a friend from the TechTalk message board. This guy had two 18" subwoofers and four 13" subwoofers for the bottom end of his HT system! Definitely over the top, but something I couldn't wait to hear. So when he went to demo it for me, I was a little surprised to see him pop in Kung Fu Panda and skip to this scene:
Right at the 1 minute mark, the Wushu Finger Hold is unleashed by Poe. When this happened on his system, it was unreal. It shook the entire room with bass. You could literally feel his floor joists moving as those 6 subwoofers displaced a crazy amount of air. Obviously I had to go back and try this on my comparatively pathetic system with only one 12" subwoofer. I actually ended up going back and rematching the entire movie and it turns out the whole thing is actually a pretty good way to show off your home theater system. The scene when the bad guy breaks out of the prison has lots of effects flying around testing your surrounds and there are lots of explosions to test the output. Nothing beats this scene if you've got the bass though.
